A peel different from them all.

Welcome to a new generation of AHA’s to restore youthful skin.

 Sea Flora + Face

For many women, the term ‘face peels’ may make you back away slowly, but a facial treatment can help with a plethora of problems, from pigmentation to scarring, hydration to acne, skin texture to fine lines and wrinkles.

Professional grade facials assist immediate and long term benefits, but just as important (or more), facials and the right kind of peel allow your deeper dermal layers to accept the actives you use on a regular basis.

Interested, but don’t know where to start?

Know this - not all peels are created equal.

When Peels Go WRONG.
When 'peeling' too frequently or too invasively - it canreduce the skin's matrix (plumpness) - make the skin thinner (saggy) over time.

What peel does our skin therapist use and how does it work?

Everyone can benefit from a peel, whether you want glowing skin or smoother texture and if you suffer from particular skincare issues like acne, a peel can work wonders for you.

Out of South Africa and into Beauty Ecology's Skin Therapy Room, comes a new generation of acids extracted from the Hibiscus Flower.

This multi-functional botanical complex formulated with powerful antioxidants and enzyme inhibitors. These acids gently promote exfoliation without degradation of the connective tissue which supports firm skin.

The results:   A facial peel without irritation and firmer, more radiant skin.

THE MAIN A-PEEL | BREAKING IT DOWN

Here is a breakdown phyto-actives that make up Hibiscus flower acids.

  • Bio-Complex of Hibiscus Acid
Pyruvic, Phytic, Mandelic and Azaleic provide a gentle exfoliation while stimulating collagen synthesis

  • Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants Antioxidant properties of Hibiscus neutralize free-radicals and reverse the effects of photo-aging

  • Anthocyanins (deep purple pigment in the flower) are a major component of hibiscus that reduces oxidative stress on DNA and acts as a sunscreen by absorbing UV rays

  • Enzyme inhibitors prevent degradation of Elastin and connective tissue to maintain skin firmness

  • Promotes skin brightening through its melanin inhibition and exfoliating properties

  • Reduces excess sebum activity to control oil on the skin and scalp

Compared to conventional AHA’s, flower acids from Hibiscus are:

  • 50% more hydrating
  • 20% greater cellular turnover than AHA’s and salicylic acid
  • 30% reduction in appearance of wrinkles by inhibiting elastase and hyaluronidase breakdown of connective tissue

The flower Acids used @ Beauty Ecology are infused into marine algae polysaccharides and have numerous applications  for a myriad of ailments including blemishes and helps relieve the symptoms of rosacea, eczema and psoriasis to calm inflammation and restore strong, more youthful looking skin.

SUMMER SKIN 101

By Stacey - Kasia Skin Specialist With the long-awaited arrival of summer in Minnesota, we want to take advantage of the sun as much as possible. Yet, neglecting to take care of our skin during the summer months can leave us looking drab and lackluster over time and, even worse, it can seriously damage our skin. Here are some basic tips for playing it safe and maintaining a radiant glow all summer long.

  1. 1.     Protect: Sunblock is your number one defense when it comes to protecting your skin from the sun. Be sure to apply a high-quality, nontoxic sunblock  30 minutes before exposure to sunlight, reapplying every 90 minutes. This not only protects against skin cancer – it prevents the appearance of unsightly age spots as well.
  2. 2.      Moisturize: The sun can dry out the skin, accentuating fine lines and wrinkles. Be sure to use a good organic moisturizer, applying it at least twice a day. Avoid products containing parabens, artificial fragrances, and other skin irritants. Apply a hydrating mask a few times a week to keep your skin soft, supple, and glowing.
  3. 3.     Replenish: Drink lots of water! Not only is this good for your health, but it helps maintain hydrated skin. Eating a variety of fruits, berries, and veggies supplies vitamins and minerals that make your skin glow from the inside out. By topically applying vitamin C, you can repair your skin and reverse signs of aging.
  4. 4.     Exfoliate: Light exfoliation eliminates dead skin cells that build up with sun exposure. Gently exfoliate with a light sugar and honey scrub or a gentle fruit enzyme mask once or twice a week. The top layer of skin is essential for protection, so remember to exfoliate with moderation.
  5. 5.     Treat: Sunburns are painful and can cause permanent damage. Supplementing with a good source of vitamin E and vitamin C  will help prevent sunburns before they occur. To heal and sooth already sunburned skin, apply aloe, milk, oatmeal, or honey topically. Cold showers and ice packs are also helpful.

 DIY!

Here is a simple mask you can make at home to sooth and hydrate your skin, while gently sloughing off dead skin cells:

Goal setting and your skin

Sure - Goal setting is pivotal in current time fiscal responsibility- but it is alsoan interesting idea in relation to skin care.

Really?  How does one set skin care goals?

Let’s answer this question with these three questions:

1.     Am I happy how my skin looks right now?

2.     Are there any skin issues I would like to resolve?

3.     In 3 years – how do I want my skin to look?

Of course the obvious answer is "fabulous" if you already have a great thing going your statement is "I want to look the same in 5 years time as I do now. "

What are realistic goals and how do you support them?

They may well be but does the skin care you are currently using support the goal you have identified? If you are unsure, the next step is to find out. How? Well there are a number of things you can do:

1.  Critique your skin care products- sit down with all the products you use regularly and read the labels.   Does the label even indicate what the product does? What are the ingredients?  Do the ingredients include the “Toxic 10?”

2.   If you don't know or can't work out how your skin care is supporting your goals, we would love to offer you a FREE consultation with our Kasia skin care specialist.

3.     If your current skin care regimen is congruent with your goals – great!  If not, then make the change with time to products that support and work with your skin. Remember consistency is key – combined with your product ingredient makeup.

4.     Don’t forget great nutrition!

With just a few minutes a day and these three simple steps you can improve your skin's tone, texture, clarity and function for a smooth, soft and radiantly healthy complexion.

Bare Minerals VS La Bella Donna

la bella PRESS_martha_may2009

1) The first main difference is ingredients (Quality) –

La Bella Donna holds 4 ingredients in the “loose” with NO fillers in the product line –

**That means NO Corn Starch, which is one main ingredient Bare Minerals use in their mineral veil foundation. When you mix Corn Starch with any type of oils form the skin you instantly clog pores because it becomes paste like.

2) Bare Minerals puts "MICA" as the key mineral in their foundations –

MICA is a much cheaper mineral than Titanium Dioxide, which is used by La Bella Donna. MICA is a high shine mineral and can make the skin look "shiny" which makes pores/fine lines look a bit bigger - Many people recognize this difference with La Bella Donna VS Bare Minerals as soon as you apply it to their skin.

3) The way the minerals are made is another key point

La Bella Donna puts minerals through a triple mill process (its more expensive to do this process) which grinds down them down to a very fine consistency. You can flick our minerals in the air and they will disperse in the air.

Other mineral lines do a double mill process, which makes minerals heavier - this can appear thicker on the skin and look more like make-up with a heavier feel as well. When you flick Bare Minerals in the air it slightly drops to the ground.

4) How many products you need to get the same look

If you walk into a store that carries Bare Minerals, the staff will try to sell someone 3 products –

  1. 1.) A mineral foundation
  2. 2.) A mineral veil to keep the minerals on longer and help with the shine (because they use MICA)
  3. 3.) A hydrating setting spray (because they use drying corn starch).
  4. 3 products to achieve one look at about $75.00-$95.00 not including the brushes needed.

La Bella recommends especially one product - our pure mineral loose foundation with only 4 ingredients to achieve an all day foundation (water-proof for humid areas and oily skin) that provides a full spectrum SPF 20, which gives sun protection all day long because it does not absorb into the skin. This one product is a 3-in-1 a foundation, concealer and setting agent - nothing else is needed. We don't recommend any setting spray because the 4 ingredients do exactly what dermatologists and doctors want them to do - "LESS INGREDIENTS ON THE SKIN MEANS MORE". La Bella is good for all skin types and was created for a dermatologist for post/op treatments and people going through Chemo - Bare Minerals can not compete with that because of the ingredients they put in their products.

5) Sold!

After a facial or waxing or hair service, Kasia Salon  lightly  dusts the minerals as the last step of every service - this is where you receive a whole new outlook on minerals - at this step it's being used as a water-proof SPF 20, and with 2 anti-inflammatory ingredients - it calms all and any redness down from extractions and steam - so the client feels more comfortable walking out of the salon. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists all over do dusting on clients after chemical peels, micro, laser, IPL facials, botox, etc... Bare Minerals can't do this because who wants cornstarch on their face after a facial (not good).

6) La Bella Donna products last on average 4-6 months, as our packaging is a bit bigger then that of Bare Minerals.

Just so you know, the shadows and lip products are just slightly more then Bare Minerals. Beautiful packaging and much better high quality ingredients with a nicer feel and look to the skin, is absolutely worth paying a little more.

I like to described it as fresh farmers market vegetables VS canned vegetables at the $0.99 store loaded with preservatives for the last year - same produce but the way they are kept and made is clearly different. And what they are going to do for the body is also clearly different, far from “Beautiful Health.”

I truly hope this helps answer your question discerning Bare Minerals. We all have the best of intentions, this is not meant to be a “jab” session, I just always will and have promised transparency and truth. Once one uses La Bella Donna, they really never go back - speaking from experience for myself, and my clients! I recommend everyone try the color in a Loose Mineral at $50, lasting 4 – 6 months! Mineral Brush also highly recommended at $45 for control and quality look. When you purchase any loose or compact mineral, recieve your goat application brush - 10% off!

Natural alternatives to living a botox and wrinkle free lifestyle.

Think organically!Natural alternatives to anti-aging, wrinkles, toxins and modalities as we uniquely age.

One of the most difficult signs of aging to 'correct', wrinkles begin appearing on our faces in our 20s, and continue to deepen and multiply right through the rest of our lives. The fight against the innocent wrinkle has caused the rise of the Botox phenomenon ... but the insanity of injecting the world's most lethal disease into our body purposefully has given rise to the organic wrinkle-treatment ideology! If you like the idea of looking younger and healthier, but don’t like the idea of paralyzing your face for it, read on. We examine the natural alternatives to Botox for a smooth, glowing, radiant complexion ... and for Beautiful Health.

What planet do wrinkles come from?

Unfortunately, we can’t just send them back where they came from! Wrinkles are caused by several factors. Some of these are beyond our control, and some we can have an effect on. The following are the main causes of wrinkles:

Aging - The middle layer of skin, the dermis, begins to thin with age. The structural proteins that bind the dermis to the epidermis loosen and unravel, meaning that the epidermis sags away from the dermis. The extent to which your skin wrinkles as you age is determined genetically.

As you age, your skin also loses some of its ability to retain moisture, declines in elasticity, produces less oil, and takes longer to heal. All of these factors have an impact on how much your skin wrinkles.

Sun Damage - Up to 80% of the wrinkles that appear on our faces have been shown to be caused by sun damage. UV light can damage collagen fibers in the skin, as well as causing excessive elastin production. Wrinkles from sun damage basically form when your skin has to heal the damage produced by the sun over and over again, resulting in minute scarring.

Contraction of the facial muscles - Habitual expressions, such as frowning, squinting, and even smiling, can cause your skin to droop and wrinkle.

How the Sun Damages Skin

The skin gets its shape and firmness from a network of proteins outside our cells, made up of collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans. Collagen gives the skin its basic structure, and elastin creates flexibility. The sun damages these proteins by triggering our skin’s DNA to act in abnormal ways.[1][2][3] The sun’s rays degrade the collagen and elastin proteins that our skin cells produce in future [4]. These degraded cells are less elastic and have a less-youthful appearance than cells which are not exposed to the sun [8].

What is Botox?

Botox is derived from the botulinum toxin, the most lethal naturally occurring substances in the world. It is used to correct wrinkles The popularity of injecting your face with a lethal disease seems to indicate some sort of mass insanity, but in 2007, Botox injections to smooth wrinkles were the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedure, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Botox will correct wrinkles such as:

  • Forehead lines
  • Crow's Feet
  • Frown lines

Botox does not work on wrinkles caused by sun damage or by gravity. Its mechanism of action is to block the nerve signals from the brain to the muscle, causing it to relax and soften, rather than contract.

The side effects of Botox include:

  • The inability to control the muscles which were injected. You won’t be able to frown or raise your eyebrows.
  • Having your eyelids uncontrollably dropping for up to three weeks after the procedure
  • Temporary facial bruising
  • Possible neurological or fetal effects in patients who are pregnant, or have a neurological disorder.

How to prevent wrinkles - Fighting off the invaders

Prevention is far more practical than a magic pill or ‘quick cure'. In the case of creeping crows feet, in the early stages you should use nutrient rich skin care, sun care, and abundant hydration . These are the only ways to avoid these creepy invaders. Let’s take a closer look at some things you can do to prevent wrinkles forming, and for beautiful health!

  • Wear a sunscreen every day. Choose a physical block and chemical free brand, so that you minimize the amount of chemical you absorb through your skin.
  • Don't take up smoking, or give it up as soon as possible. Smoking reduces the collagen production of your skin cells.
  • Drink your daily allowance of water. Water is necessary to help the skin stay 'plumped'. Dehydrated skin sags noticeably more than well-hydrated skin.
  • Try to include polyunsaturated fats, plenty of omega-3 and omega-6, and a wide variety of different fruits and vegetables in your diet. The free radical theory of aging is one of the most widely accepted (although it does have its detractors!). The theory states that oxidative stress is one of the main causes of aging and related conditions - such as wrinkles. Oxidative stress is thought to be caused by free radicals, which can be reduced in your body by eating foods rich in antioxidants. Blueberries, papaya and whole grains are good examples.
  • Exercise regularly, to help ensure maximum vitamin and mineral flow to your skin as well as increase oxygen content.

Lifestyle choices to help reduce wrinkles

The preventive measures above are all lifestyle factors that can help reduce the number and intensity of your wrinkles, as well as helping prevent new ones forming. Here are some other choices you can make that will reduce the appearance of current wrinkles, and prevent new ones forming. Don’t wash your face with tap water more than twice a day. Your skin needs its natural oils to prevent wrinkling, and washing (especially with soaps), strips them away. Avoid alkaline soaps and deodorants. Ask your beauty therapist about which organic soaps will clean your skin, while allowing it to retain moisture.

Even if you will only be outside for short periods of time, apply sunscreen every day. Use moisturizers and cosmetic products such as minerals with sunscreen included. Don’t drink alcohol before you go to bed. Alcohol increase capillary leakage, which ultimately makes your skin look saggy and puffy. This leakage is also exacerbated when you lie down.

Get results with natural products and procedures for wrinkle reduction

Antioxidant products - So popular it has almost become a meaningless buzzword, 'antioxidants' are a critical component of an anti-wrinkle skincare regimen. However, to reverse the affects of oxidation organic or all-natural products are recommended - many antioxidant products contain a wealth of additional chemicals that actually destroy your skin's health, rather than promote it.

Glycolic peels - These can be very effective at removing fine lines, scarring and discoloration from skin. Seek salon and spas that use a natural system of an 8% exfoliate formulation of the facial peel, which basically strips away dead skin cells and the outermost layer of skin, taking away lines to reveal new, fresh cells beneath.

You can expect improvement in:

  • Elasticity and firmness
  • Tone, color and texture
  • Moisture balance
  • Fine line and wrinkle appearance
  • Acne scarring and reduction of future acne

Moisture serums - Top organic salons recommend using a nightly treatment that combines highly effective fruit acids, also known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) made from organic sources.

Heal your skin while you slumber by using products formulated with natural fruit acids and light moisturizing to minimize wrinkles, acne, and age spots, and help improve many other skin conditions. Enzyme enhanced products also strengthens the skin's barrier against outside chemicals. You will notice much smoother skin after using this product.

A Beautiful Health Lifestyle: What to remember

Remember to focus on the prevention end of the wrinkle reduction scale, by stopping smoking, applying sunscreen every day, eating a healthy, varied diet, and exercising daily, even if it is only for a short period. When looking for wrinkle-reduction and skin improvement products, seek ingredients, think “long term", and go natural! Nature has provided all of the solutions you need to stay looking like your kids (or kid cousins!) ... ask your skin care professional for solutions unique to you!
